L'incredibile Esplosione Moda (The Amazing Fashion Explosion)

What a day! Well.. I just finished creating my creative hat- what a process! The hardest part for me was coming up with the idea of what I wanted my hat to look like.  I knew that I wanted it to do something with fashion, but wasn't sure how to actually execute it!  After searching on Pinterest for hours, I finally came up with the idea to use cut up magazine pages as a base for my hat.  I think it turned out pretty awesome-what do you think?!

I chose to title my hat "L'incredibile Esplosione Moda," which is "The Amazing Fashion Explosion" in Italian, because it looks just like a volcano.  The feathers that are bursting out of the top look just like lava, so I thought the name fit perfect!

Create your own creative hat- you will be surprised how creative you can really get!

Interrogation Time!

Glenn Cole of 72andSunny isn't shy when it comes to dealing with his creative process.

Cole focuses on "challenging assumptions and asking the right questions"- something that meshes well with my personality.  I constantly ask questions.  I always challenge.  I always (sometimes) am right--or so I tell myself! The way Cole described his creative process really interested me and made me think of creativity in a completely new way.  It finally seems like creativity is something that I can combine with my everyday life.  I can ask questions, I can challenge problems, and I certainly can ask questions.

The creative director also said, "I question the brief, I question my own solution, I question our presentation, I question schedules...I question all of it."

My main takeaway from Glenn Cole's statement: QUESTION EVERYTHING! So, from now on, I am going to take in everything I hear and question it.  Who knows what will come out of it?

Adorable Trends For 2013

Lucky Ladybugs!

This little creature somehow managed to land on me this afternoon- I feel so lucky now!

Thought this poem was fitting for my day:

Little ladybug on my arm

you wear a heart as part of your charm

You joined me on this sunny day

just for a moment then you flew away.

Mouth-Watering Monkey Bread

Can't stop thinking about the monkey bread that my mom and aunt always make...wish I could have a slice of this delicious breakfast treat right now!

Scarves, Scarves, Scarves

One of my absolute favorite staples for spring is the classic look of a scarf.  Patterned scarves can dress up any plain shirt and complete the outfit, while solid colored scarves simply add to an already fabulous outfit.  Designers from DVF to Emilio Pucci have designed incredible pieces-don't be afraid to wear a bold scarf!

The Monogram Frenzy

Monograms have always been popular-but maybe not as popular as they are today.  It seems that everyone has at least one item that is monogrammed with their initials...and why not? It is adorable! Here are a few of my favorites that I found on Pinterest!

My mom got me this plastic monogram that I now have on my desk- I absolutely love it!

Lagerfeld Loves Dallas

Shades of red, green, blue and white drape the models as they make their way down the pale wooden runway.  Kilts, scarves and other Scottish-inspired apparel perfectly match the rustic venue: Scotland’s Linlithgow Palace.  Part of a very select European tour, designer Karl Lagerfeld’s Scottish Metiers d’Art event made an impression.  Next stop for the Chanel creative director? Dallas, Texas.
Lagerfeld announced at the January 2013 WWD CEO Summit that Dallas is his choice for the next Chanel runway show.  The WWD CEO Summit is a conference held annually by Women’s Wear Daily trade newspaper in New York City.  At this conference, hundreds of apparel and retail CEOs gather to encourage and inspire one another.

Lagerfeld understands the extreme contrast between the setting of his previous show at a castle in Scotland and his next stop, Dallas.   Lagerfeld, in an interview at the conference, explained why he chose Dallas: “To do the opposite, next time I will go to Dallas.  You know why? First of all, I love Texas.  I love Texans.”  So Lagerfeld will pack his bags in Scotland and head down south.
Taking this runway extravaganza to a radically different setting wasn’t the only reason Lagerfeld chose Dallas. “There’s another reason.  When Chanel reopened, the French press was beyond nasty.  The only press that understood it immediately was the American press, and Neiman Marcus gave her the Oscar for her collection, so I think it’s a nice thing to go there,” Lagerfeld said.
Though few may have expected Lagerfeld to include Texas in his itinerary, with Lagerfeld, there is always some connection.  “I try to find a connection, but the connection is often very vague. With Texas, it’s a detail, but with little detail, you can make a whole story. I am a storyteller for that.”  Lagerfeld’s intricate designs and garments complete the story, making the connection clearer than ever.
Lagerfeld explained to Bridget Foley, executive editor of Women’s Wear Dailythe importance of selecting the perfect location for a runway show. “It’s very important to do it in a very special way. . . there has to be some magical surrounding.”
Chanel’s Metiers d’Art show, known for its lavish extravagance, introduces the pre-fall collection.  This runway show is specifically meant to display a characteristic of Chanel’s craftsmanship.  In the past, the must-see event has been set in such enchanting locations as Venice and Paris.

Tayler Lee, an assistant manager for fine apparel at Neiman Marcus in Dallas, said the Neiman’s team couldn’t be happier with Lagerfeld’s choice of venues.
“We are excited and honored to have the show in Dallas. It is wonderful visibility for the city amongst the fashion community — we have plenty of chic hot spots in Dallas to share!”
Lee continues, “Karl has long been fascinated with the city, and Coco was beloved and honored by Neiman Marcus for her earliest collections.  We can only hope to impress fashion’s royalty as we host this grand affair!”
Though a date has yet to be set for the Lagerfeld event, fashion lovers across the country anticipate the runway spectacular that will undoubtedly take Dallas by storm.

LOVED all of the amazing looks from Diane Von Furstenburg's 2013-2014 collection!

Throwback To Summer

Santorini, Greece itself is an art piece; the white and blue covered homes light up the town.

Right when I saw the movie, "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants," where the young girls went to Santorini and rode donkeys, I knew I wanted to take the same ride as them.  Little did I know it wouldn't be as fun as I imagined!

The animals weaved in and out wherever they pleased, and I had no way to stop them! I did get some incredible pictures though that I wanted to share! They were taken on my iPhone but still look amazing!

Let me know what you think of the photographs and I took! AND...What is your favorite city in Greece?

Monster's Workin' It!

Just wanted to share this hilarious Monster ad! When I first saw it, I couldn't stop laughing.  I think it is great for the company's brand that connects users with jobs.

The ad catches the viewer's eye and really captures the mindset of Americans during the time it was aired.  People want jobs they enjoy, not simply jobs boring jobs they hate! That is what Monster can provide- great jobs that match the personality of the job seeker.

I believe the thinking behind this ad was to connect with the viewer's.  By creating an advertisement that is funny and entertaining while sharing the brand's motives, a potential consumer is able to understand what the company is and is shown how they can create better lives for themselves.

Ted Gilvar, Global Chief Marketing Officer at Monster, shared this ad in my Creativity class at SMU.

Homey Homes

Just ran across this photo I took a month ago when I went to East Texas for a weekend at a ranch- it is so beautiful even though it is extremely old!

Muffins, Muffins, Muffins

Thought this post fit perfect to go after my last post about Leah Foster's cupcake art! Who doesn't love yummy desserts and food?!

Just tried a new recipe for blueberry muffins- and it was a success! They only took about 10 minutes to prepare, and 20 minutes in the oven. Can't wait to eat them (and continue eating them throughout the week).

Bake something that makes you happy!

The Truth About Cupcakes

You'll never believe what one incredible artist has done with cupcakes-I know I couldn't when she first described her creations.

The young artist, Leah Foster, has created several art pieces using only cupcakes (some pieces with up to 10,000 treats) and fishing wire!

Artist Leah Foster

What is even cooler about this artist is that she is now using cupcakes to help with the self-esteem of young girls.  I was lucky enough to partake in one of her cupcake activities.

Foster asked each person to first grab a cupcake.  Next, we wrote our biggest fear or anxiety on a piece of paper and stuffed it into the cupcake... and just like that, the fear was GONE! A wide variety of icing, sprinkles and food dye covered the stage, and it was up to us to decorate the cupcake in how we see ourselves.

I decorated my cupcake with pink icing and rainbow sprinkles because I always want to have fun and look cute.  How would you ice your cupcake?
